A development of new homes in Skelton, close to both countryside and coast, just two miles from Saltburn beach, and a short drive from the Cleveland Hills and The North York Moors National Park. Castlegate appeals to families, commuters and first-time buyers drawn by the excellent local amenities and transport connections, as well as by the leisure opportunities the area offers.

Castlegate is located on Bowland Road in Skelton-in-Cleveland, two miles from Saltburn, four miles from Guisborough, seven miles from Redcar and 13 miles from Middlesbrough.

Skelton lies within the administrative boundaries of Skelton and Brotton parish council, and the unitary authority of Redcar and Cleveland.

There are a number of well-regarded schools in the local area. For younger children, these include Skelton Primary School, Badger Hill Academy, Westgarth Primary, Errington Primary and St Peter’s CE Primary. Schools for older pupils include Outwood Academy Bydales and Nunthorpe Academy, among others.

Skelton High Street, less than a mile away, is home to a number of independent stores, as well as a small supermarket, while larger supermarkets and a homewares shop can be found around a mile away. Slightly further afield, both Saltburn and Marske offer a selection of specialist retailers, supermarkets and cafés. Saltburn also hosts a monthly famers’ market. A greater range of stores and shopping centres can be found in Redcar and Middlesbrough, 15 minutes’ drive and 25 minutes’ drive away respectively.

Skelton has a cricket club, with adult and junior teams, and a junior football club. Saltburn-by-the-Sea Golf Club lies two miles from the development, and the nearest leisure centre is at Saltburn, five minutes’ drive away. Facilities there include two swimming pools, a gym, fitness studio, an indoors bowls pitch and a sports hall.

The Cleveland Way lies on the doorstep of the development. Popular with walkers this national trail is 109 miles long and stretches from Helmsley in North Yorkshire to the seaside resort of Filey. The Cleveland Hills and the edge of the North York Moors National Park, with its picturesque villages, can be reached in 10 minutes by car.

Saltburn-by-the-Sea is popular with local visitors and tourists from outside the area, especially with families drawn by its sandy beaches. The town also boasts one of the oldest funicular railways in the world – the Saltburn Cliff Lift – which transports passengers from the town to the Grade II listed pier below, and, importantly, back up again.

Marske Sands, 10 minutes’ drive away, is the place to go for water sports, including windsurfing and surfing, or just a leisurely stroll along the beach. Marske village is also home to several cafés, restaurants and traditional pubs.

The nearest train stations to Castlegate are Saltburn and Marske for trains to Redcar, Middlesbrough and Darlington, among other destinations.
